Recovery Tips

Posted .

Here at Dermatology and Plastic Surgery Specialists, we understand any kind of surgery can be intimidating, especially during the recovery process. That is why our friendly staff is here to help you understand what to expect during the recovery process, and to ease your fears to give you the best recovery possible.

Before any kind of procedure, make sure to tell Dr. Driessen about any pre-existing medical conditions or medications you are taking. In some cases, we might recommend you abstain from using aspirin and anti-inflammatory medications before and after the procedure to minimize your risk of bleeding.

You should plan to take some time off from work and avoid strenuous activities for at least a week after the procedure, unless otherwise instructed by Dr. Driessen. Most surgical procedures require you to be fully sedated. As a result, you will need to arrange to have someone drive you home and help out for a few days while you get back on your feet.

You will need to avoid eating or drinking after midnight the day before the procedure. It’s a good idea to dress in loose fitting clothes to help make dressing and moving easier after the procedure.

It’s not uncommon for your doctor to insert a small plastic tube under your skin to help drain minor postoperative bleeding, depending on your surgery. However, we will explain to you how to properly care for it and any stitches, bandages or dressings you may have.

If you have any questions about preparing for a surgical procedure in Palm Desert, California, please feel free to call Dermatology and Plastic Surgery Specialists at 760-773-6616 to schedule an appointment.
